Migration of the Jews of Ostropol to their new home in Sherbooke.

More than 80 people who were born in Ostropol immigrated to Sherbrooke as of our current study. It seems after the first Echenberg arrived in the 1880’s there must have been a call back to others. Many families followed. In fact it was not just one way. There were others that went to Quebec province that I am not sure went to Sherbrooke –Gillmans, Osovski, Koteliansky, and others

There was travel back and forth. Moses Echenberg came with three other Ostropolers, he stayed, the others seem to have all returned to Ostropol. His cousin Nute Kitner who traveled with him, did not come to North America again until 1921. In fact one of the things that struck me about the Sherbrookers is that their connection to Ostropol was much more active than the other North American settlements, that is there was movement in both directions. Srulik Echenberg came to Sherbrooke then went back; Moshe son of Alter Echenberg did the same; and a number of others
